The most efficient period of the world famous Echternach scriptorium dates back to the 11th century when kings and emperors ordered their books in Echternach. During that time, the Golden Book of Echternach was created as well, the Codex Aureus Epternacensis. The museum features high-quality facsimiles which give the visitors an impression of the skillfull art of the monks. Another section of the museum is dedicated to life during the 8th century, the time of St. Willibrord, founder of Echternach.
